Correcting White Balance in LightRoom

Correct white balance is important in digital shooting and most cameras will do a decent job if left on auto white balance. You are however at the mercy of the cameras electronics.

An often used approach is to leave the camera set on Auto White Balance (AWB), shoot in RAW mode and then choose the white balance later in your RAW converter.

Camera White Balance

Setting the correct white balance in your camera, is important to ensure the objects that are white, are actually displayed white within the photograph. Just about every photographer at one stage or another, has taken a photograph that contained a blueish tinge.

D-Town TV Back Season2

D-Town TV Back Season2

D-Town TV is a really cool wesite that offers camera tips and photographic techniques.

A new episode is launched every Thursday at around 21:00 GMT

It is hosted by two of the top digital photographers,

Digital Camera ISO

Digital Camera ISO

ISO sensitivity expresses the speed of photographic negative materials (formerly expressed as ASA).

Since digital cameras do not use film but use image sensors instead, the ISO equivalent is usually given.

What ISO denotes is how sensitive the image sensor is to the amount of light present. The higher the ISO, the more sensitive the image sensor and therefore the possibility to take pictures in low-light situations.

Digital Camera Exposure

Digital Camera Exposure

Exposure is the amount of light collected by the sensor in your camera during a single picture.  If the shot is exposed too long the photograph will be washed out.  If the shot is exposed too short the photograph will appear too dark.  Almost all cameras today have light meters which measure the light in the given shot and set an ideal exposure automatically.

Camera Shutter Speed

Camera Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is the speed at which the camera opens the shutter (the little flap inside your camera that opens just enough to let some light through when you click) and lets the light fall on the sensor/film to record the picture. Shutter speed is important to your photographs as the quicker the shutter speed, the sharper the image will be.

Camera Lens Aperture

Camera Lens Aperture

The main function of a camera lens is to collect light. The aperture of a lens is the diameter of the lens opening and is usually controlled by an iris. The larger the diameter of the aperture, the more light reaches the film / image sensor.
